**CLOON BEACH -- named after my maternal grandfather, George B. Cloon (which is the only reason it gets 2 stars). From Galveston, take the free ferry to Port Bolivar, then take Hwy. 87 east for about 8 miles, just before you reach the town of Crystal Beach turn right on Sand Dollar, take this road to its end, past Cloon Street, and you're there. Note also "Mr. G's St", presumably also named after my grandfather George.

**ZION NATIONAL PARK/SPRINGDALE -- with cars restricted, shuttle buses and bicycles have the run of the scenic drive--an unrivaled 8-mile road through the heart of this spectacular park!
**South Campground -- Spot #62 afforded a reasonable amount of privacy with fantastic views. It is first-come, so be there by 9am. The F Loop at the Watchman Campground also looked good, and can be reserved 6 months in advance.
*Bit & Spur Saloon -- Good beer, okay food. Owners Trish & Joe Jennings (recommended by Andrea Mellman).
*Best Western Zion Park Inn -- Very nice place; includes a great breakfast buffet at the nearby Switchback steakhouse.
--Flying Monkey Pizza was awful.
BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK -- Stunning scenery, even if you only have time for a one day drive through of the park's "Viewpoints"
